Short Tales Extra

It took me a long time after Foofer died to look at his pictures or videos. His loss devastated me. While I don't sit around and brood, I still think about him every day. However, now the memories are good ones rather than desperate with sadness.
I have more than one thousand images of Foofer, most of them contained within thirteen bound volumes. Some of the earlier photos were taken with an instant Polaroid camera (remember those?), while the remainder were developed from negatives. Pictures from 2006 onwards were snapped with a digital camera.
I've wanted to design a special web site for the Short Tales Collection for quite some time, but it was only recently that I went ahead with the project. This also meant poring over all the photos of Foofer, going back to when he was just a puppy, so I could put together a flash gallery to feature on the new site.
It took me all of yesterday to go through the images, which included scanning the "instant" pics and those developed from negatives. By the time I selected and spot-edited various images, Foofer's Life in Pictures contained seventy photos.
It was emotionally wrenching to go through the pictures, to say the least. So many good memories came rushing back, also tinged with slight bits of regret and sadness. Both Foofer and Wilbert seemed to come back to life for me, even if just for a little while. In other words, the experience was very bittersweet.
I still can't look at Foofer's ashes, though. I doubt that day will ever come. They will have to remain hidden in the cedar chest in which they reside, until they are buried with me some day in the future.
